In the beginning, the firm's name was AUTOMATIC PRIMER COMPANY, or in an abbreviated b....APCO.

As years passed, the trade name APCO steadily gained wider recognition, by Design Engineers, than the true corporate name. Hence, the valves were commonly referred to and specified as APCO VALVES.
